A Music Review | India.Arie

When thinking about what to blog about tonight, I came to the idea that I should brach out and try a different genre of post. It was then that I realised I had never discussed music on my blog. So today, I thought I would discuss an artist with you that I discovered a little while ago, and ever since have completely and utterly fallen in love with - and that's India.Arie.

I know a lot of you have probably never heard of her before, and if you have, I'm sure you will most likely agree with me that her and her music combined is something quite special. Generally, her music falls within the 'Soul' category. The thing I love about her songs is how positive they are. The lyrics warm your heart with so much love, light, and positivity - I just don't know how she does it. Her songs are so therapeutic and relaxing. A particular favourite of mine, is her song 'Just For Today.' This song radiates such positive vibes that you physically can't stop smiling. It basically expresses the importance of letting go of your worries and not worrying what tomorrow will bring. I think this is very important in life, personally for me anyway, as living in fear of what tomorrow will bring lets today be wasted. Just live for the moment. Listening to this song in the morning cam really influence the amount of optimism you persue throughout yor day. It just shows how amazing she is as an artist, the fact you can have an influence on the outlook somebody takes on their day, or even life, is a very wonderful thing, and isn't an easy thing to do, either.

Another song I enjoy of hers, is 'Just Do You' (very similar title to the previous one mentioned, I know). This song basically spreads the meaning of 'Just be Yourself' and the fact that there's only one you. Another very important thing in life, as at the end of the day, if you're trying to be a representation of somebody else, people will notice, and it is completely obvious to everybody when somebody is not being themselves. The song is again, relaxing, and gets your brain thinking in a therapeutic sort of way. Meaning, it lets your mind develop the words she sings in the song, and kind of gives you the opportunity to 'make of it what you will', if you get me.

The last song I'm going to discuss is 'Flowers'. Before I even heard the song, I had a feeling I would love it (purely because of the title!) Not that I'm saying you should ever judge a book by its cover or anything... But anyway, I love this song a lot. Not only the lyrics but also the backing music in this song. At parts of it has a sort of Bollywood sound to it, and I personally think it is just an all round brilliant song. Throughout the song, she sings about how somebody helped her, and made her feel happy when she was down, and how she wanted to 'give them their flowers now'. It's just a beautiful song really!

To wrap this up, her music in general is something rather special, and all of her songs send a message that I can guarantee will help you in life on someway or another. If your like me, and love the whole idea of quotes, positivity, and soulful songs, then you are going to LOVE India.Arie. Her songs really help your mind develop the morals and meanings of life, and I'm going to be honest, I love things like that. Some people may class this as cheesy or whatever else, but please, don't knock it until you have listened to it (and even then, it will be hard for you to say a bad word about it, really!) Also, so many songs nowadays have no meaning, and when the artist sings them, there is just no passion there at all. No real meaning to the lyrics, and most of the time, rhyming the words is more important than the lyrics actually making sense, which I find rather annoying!

I really do hope you have a listen to India.Arie, and really just let her lyrics inspire you to take an optimistic look upon life. Hopefully you enjoyed this post, I understand it was a little different, but I am hoping to do more music reviews in future. In fact (as soon as the delivery arrives) I will be sure to review Ariana Grande's new album 'Yours Truly' for you guys.

India.Arie's new album 'SongVersation' is now available to download on iTunes - go and download it! ;)

Thank you for reading, speak to you soon!

Mollie x
